Judging by what the owners have said in recent community meetings, development is about 4 to 5 years away. Make sure to write your local City Council Members, Planning Commissioners, County Officials, The Governor, and State Congressmen and Representatives to let them know you want to see them protect the wildlife and natural beauty of Banning Ranch. America is one of the richest countries in the world. California alone is the 7th largest economy in the world. The money it would take to save Banning Ranch is a miniscule spec of either of those budgets. Throw in some private funds, some city and county funds, some ballot measure and bond funds, some mitigation funds, and Saving Banning Ranch can be a done deal. There were nay sayers that said Bolsa Chica couldn't be saved because of previous recessions and downturns in the economy. However, the proof is in the pudding so to speak when you look at how nice Bolsa Chica is.

If you live nearby, make sure to monitor what activity goes on in Banning Ranch. There is of course pressure for any land owner or developer to destroy anything that impedes development. This would include indescrimiately killing any endangered or threatened animals or plants or Native American artifacts. We need to make sure this doesn't happen. Much of the land appears to be scarred much more than is necessary for oil operations.
